“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires”ย (2Pe 1:3-4 NLT).

//There is a freedom that comes from not being responsible for things. I like that freedom. It lifts a weight off my shoulders and allows me to breathe deeply. This verse is very freeing. See, God gave us everything we need to live a godly life. It was part of the deal when we came to know him.

But why did we come to know him? Because he called us to himself through his glory and excellence.

Now, we get to share in God’s divine nature and escape the world’s corruption, according to God’s promises. ย Why? Because of his glory and excellence.

But why did God give us these great promises? Because of his glory and excellence.

It is a relief to know I am not responsible for my salvation. No one, not a single human being, would ever choose God without his glory and excellence making it possible. We are all dead (Eph 2:1). Dead men don’t respond. They can’t make choices or obey commands. Like Lazarus, no matter how times Jesus beckons us to come forth, we simply cannot until God gives us new life.

Responding to God, gaining knowledge of Him, sharing in His divine nature, and escaping the world’s corruption do not result from the will of man (John 1:12-13) or a choice we made. God made us alive and called us forth by His divine power and because of his glory and excellence.

You know what I find most comforting about not being responsible for my salvation? I can’t lose it. If I did nothing to earn it, I can’t do anything to forfeit it. It is because God made it so. That is the best because of all.//
