I left her zoned in front of Super Why.  That is the one, sure-fire, guaranteed, without a doubt method to keep her contained and enthralled.  Without fail, she dutifully transforms into NATALIE – with the power to help.  With her super power, she aids her fellow super readers as they come to the rescue and solve super problems by looking in a book.

Thanks to the magic of public television, I get an uninterrupted half hour to conquer my (perpetual) to-do list.

Number one on my list: take shower.

I finished with time to spare, and was pleased to find her parked in front of the TV – exactly where I left her – singing “hip, hip, hooray” because she and the super readers saved the day.

Then I found this…

This is what happens when I shower.

If you think this is bad, then you should have seen her.

I knew it was shaping up to be one of those days.  (Seriously, it is like she plans this stuff.)

That is when I decided to look in The Good Book, in search of words of encouragement.  Here are my favorites.

James 1:2-4

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Isaiah 40:31

but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Psalms 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

John 16:33

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you;  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Deuteronomy 31:8

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

Romans 8:31

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

I pray you will also find encouragement and hope in the words of our Lord.
