The Wrap Up :: #Write31Days #5mfw {The End – 2016}

Nov 7th, 2016

I began this journey one day late and on a whim. Even here, at the final destination, the pilgrimage feels surreal.

This project was so much more than writing for five minutes 31 days in a row. It was a much-needed exercise in discipline. Not only did it have me practicing my craft, but it also enhanced my faith. I opened my Bible every day. I read God’s word. I wasn’t doing that before. For me, what started as a commitment to write turned into an on-going conversation with my Lord.

Only :: #Write31Days #5mfw {Day 31}

I need friends who are waypoints – they are stops along my path where I can check in and see if I am on course. If I am, no biggie. We give each other knowing nods and say our amens and go on our way. But when I am off course, they point me in the right direction. They tell me all the truth I already know, because I still need to know.

As God’s children, we are commissioned officers in a war against evil. Our job is to cut down the forces of hell. We aren’t fighting man. We aren’t battling our neighbor. We are lacerating the powers of darkness by the power and strength of God and leaving them to bleed to death.

I am a big fan of the new covenant. The old covenant isn’t bad; humans are. The Israelites could not fulfill their end of the bargain, underscoring the need for a Saviour. Thankfully, God made a new covenant. Now, solely because of God’s precious grace, we see “thou shall” shift to “I will”.

It is just like man to seek a way to be like God. Of course we want to perform fabulous works just like Christ did! We want it to be about what we do and how much we have earned because that is tangible. We can keep score.

But Jesus turns our flesh inside out and tells us the only work we can perform is to believe in the intangible and unlikely.

Confront :: #Write31Days #5mfw {Day 26}

Oct 26th, 2016

Everything said about Jerusalem is true. God commissioned Isreal to drive out their enemies. They were supposed to utterly annihilate them. Instead, they bedded them, adopting their pagan gods and pagan practices and defying their Covenant with the One True God.

Admittedly, God punished them, as history demonstrates; but ultimately, God will restore them, in spite of all they have done. How does it get more loving than that?

The entire point of raising up Gideon to be a judge of Isreal was to prove that God is our salvation. Gideon took an army of three hundred yellow-bellied chickens and defeated the mighty Midianites by carrying torches, blowing horns, and breaking jars. That was an act of God, not Gideon.
